About Us
The Esther Starkman School Council and the Esther Starkman Fundraising Association are separate boards both made up of volunteers (primarily parents) that work together to support our school. The two boards are governed and run separately, however many volunteers serve on both boards. The boards work together to align their priorities to ensure that we are supporting the school as effectively as possible.
School Council
School council plays an important role by providing educational advice, resources and assistance to our school principal, staff and students. School council is governed by the Education Act.
School Council:
focuses on educational matters
provides input on topics such as program planning, school budgets, and school operations
serves as a liaison between parents, the school and community groups
locates resources such as speakers and volunteers
gathers information and sharing experiences
supports the needs, goals and objectives of the school
create and provide initiatives for enhancement of the school community

Parent Association
The Esther Starkman Parent Association is an Alberta registered incorporated society governed by the Societies Act and its purpose is to raise funds to support school priorities. These initiatives are based on feedback from teachers and the principal and are chosen to positively impact the everyday lives of students.
Parent Association:
applies for and maintains our Casino Gaming License
holds and manages two (2) bank accounts - a general account & gaming account
creates, organizes and manages all fundraising initiatives
supports the goals and objectives of the school council
holds general liability insurance
